Amiibo Number 41 Ganondorf Super Smash Bros Collection

How could I not go for Ganondorf seeing as I already have both Zelda and Link?! Ganondorf is one of the most impressive Amiibo to date in my opinion.

The detail in his face is amazing, and the moulding and paintwork throughout is just brilliant.

His green skin one is nice and mat, and the armour that he's wearing is so cool, especially when combined with that bad ass cape!

The only real complaint I have with mine is that the gold on his chest looks more like a watery yellow which is a real shame compared to the rest of him.

That gripe aside, I really like Ganondorf and I'm glad to add to the villain side of my Amiibo collection!

Nintendo Amiibo Number 2 Link Super Smash Bros Collection

As a Legend of Zelda fan, and a new fan of Amiibo, picking up Link was a no brainer!

Just like the other Amiibo - no articulation but these look great.

Link is in his usual green tunic, and this Link is from Skyward Sword. Firstly, the elephant in the room: That yellow stand. Why?! It could have so easily been clear!! Besides that one (pretty glaring) error, this figure is an excellent little representation of Link.

The detail and paintwork in the intricate areas such as the shield and sheath are spot on and look game accurate.

They've even gone so far to mould detail and add paint in behind the shield which is a nice touch, as are the small touches around the edges of the tunic and the stitching work in his cap.

Again, I totally recommend these things. I would say you'll get more use from them if you have Amiibo compatible games, but that's minimal really, these are just great looking little figures!

Super Mario K'Nex Series 4 Blind Bags

My local Forbidden Planet has these in stock, and you know what? Every one of them is a Bob-omb. You can feel the massive round body. But as I was shopping the other day I found 2 bags in amongst a bunch of the new Thomas the Tank Engine blind bags, so I bought them up!

I really like the little K'Nex Mario figs, especially for the enemies, I have that Bob-omb I was talking about in my videogame display. I felt both bags and made sure I was getting different figures, and this is who I got.

Firstly

Green Toad! He's a neat little figure. His arms are articulates as is his massive head.

Second up I got a character I really dig the design of

Bowser Jr! This little fig has head rotation, his arms and legs are articulated and he even has wrist swivel.

Both of these figures are easy little builds and both look really cool so I'm glad I picked them up. If I ever see more I'd no doubt add more to my collection.

Nintendo Amiibo No 13 Zelda Super Smash Bros Collection

Back to it with a look at the Princess Zelda Amiibo from Nintendo. This is number 13 in the Super Smash Brothers line of Amiibo figures and these guys continue to impress.

As is the norm with the Amiibo figurines, there is no articulation. But considering the 2 - 3" size of these things, the detail and moulding makes up for that in a big way.

The paintwork throughout the figure is, for the most part, clean and crisp. There are one or two minor blemishes on my Zelda, though nothing you can notice when she's sat on your shelf.

And check it out Hasbro - painting eyes is possible even when the figure is small!!

The gold used on Zelda really works and looks great when used with the more mat colour of her dress.

If you're a Zelda fan, Nintendo fan, or Amiibo collector, you don't want to miss out on this one!

An apology

Guys! I'm so sorry I haven't posted recently! Work has been kicking my ass, but I'm back! I'll be picking up the slack and moving forward with reviews from the DC universe, Figma, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, video game toys, and more! Stay tuned!

Nintendo Amiibo No 19 Rosalina Super Smash Brothers Collection

Next up on our look at some Amiibo is Rosalina, and this little figurine is beautiful.

Firstly, an awesome little addition to Rosalina is that she comes with her little star pal Luma! The sculpt is very simple but captures the character of Luma perfectly and the paint is clean.

Rosalina is stunning, really. For what these are, Nintendo have put a lot of love and attention into creating fantastic, videogame accurate, toys.

The paint is really nice on Rosalina - the blue has a kind of sparkle to it which looks lovely. Rosalina even has nail polish on. There are stars around the bottom of Rosalina's dress which look very cool and sharp, and there is sculpted detail around the cuffs of her dress.

Again, I'm a big fan of these small figures and I'm just so impressed with the detail in these small 2.5" figures. I definitely recommend these but only if you can get them at retail price - unfortunately there's a lot of scalpers out there.

Nintendo Amiibo No 2 Peach Super Smash Brothers Collection

Following Bowser, we're taking a look at the Peach Amiibo. This Amiibo is in the Super Smash Bros collection so is stood on the gold base, just like the Bowser Amiibo.

As is with all the Amiibo, there's no articulation in these figurines, but the paint and sculpt really make up for that.

There are at least 3 different pinks used here - a flat baby pink, a dark pink and a metallic pink. The sculpted details around the white skirt are very nicely done, and the gold filigree work above and below the sculpted details are incredibly neatly applied.

All of the ruffles and folds in Peach's dress are all moulded and add some great depth to this figurine.

I'm really impressed with these figures and Peach is no exception. The gold of her crown and the blue of her earrings are all clean and sharp and add such videogame accurate detail.

If you own a Wii U and have compatible games these are fun additions to those games, but really, if you're just a Nintendo fan these could be worth picking up just to own them as Smash trophies!

Figma No 226 Captain America Max Factory Good Smile Company Avengers

Across the pond it's Independence Day so what better time to look at The Star Spangled Man - Captain America.

Being a Figma figure, Cap comes with the Figma stand

Multiple hands

And of course, Cap has to have his shield

This Cap figure is in his uniform from the original Avengers movie and the paint and sculpt are bang on.

The shield has a lovely metallic paint sheen and the silver of his star and the accents on his suit are also shiny metallic. The suit is a royal blue with dark blue sections. The red of the suit is rich and the white is good and thick and covers the blue well.

The paint continues to impress on the back of the shield with sculpted details and silver paint and the straps that Cap holds are a light brown leather colour.

The articulation, this being a Figma figure, is excellent. First up, there's eye articulation - I didn't move them, I know I'd never be able to get them straightened up again. The head looks up and down and left and right, the shoulders rotate round and move up - the chest is a rubber piece so it doesn't inhibit any movement. The elbows, as are the knees, are Figma discs. A lot of criticism has been aimed at these joints because of they look, but the range of motion that these give the figure is solid so I don't mind them so much. The wrists rotate and swivel.

There's an ab crunch and waist swivel, the hips are on ball joints so the legs swivel out and forward and back. The knees, as mentioned before, are on discs so bend smoothly, there's ankle articulation and the toes bend.

I really like this figure (I'm a big Captain America fan), and this is a solid addition to any Avengers or hero collection.

If you can afford this figure I'd say go for it. In saying that though I know that there's an SH Figuarts Captain America in his Age of Ultron uniform coming soon, so it might be worth waiting for that if it's possible to get your hands on it.

Nintendo Amiibo Bowser No 20 Super Smash Bros Collection

I had no intention of picking up any Amiibo. I really didn't. I was happy to stay away from them seeing as I'm not a Smash Bros player. But I love Mario Kart 8 and the extra costumes the Amiibo give your character are really fun, they give you extra lives in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, they unlock an extra mode in Mario Party 10 and can be used as player tokens, and they give you new skins for Yoshi in Yoshi's Wooly World (which I hope to pick up soon). The added bonus of the Amiibo figures though? They look great.

There's no articulation on these, but the sculpt and paintwork on these really make up for it.

Bowser comes on a gold Super Smash Bros base and stands about 2" high. His scales are moulded, his hair is sculpted, and he has his spikes on his back and leather spiked bands.

Bowser is really nicely painted even with white under his feet, but it's his hair that looks the best as it goes from a dark red to a lighter red, giving it a very cool flame look.

I really didn't expect to like these figures as much but they really are great looking and the chance to add more Nintendo characters to my collection is always welcome. I might not be getting the most out of their functionality but I'll be cherry picking my favourite characters from this line for sure.
