Marvel 500 Blind Bag minifigures Hasbro

I picked up a couple more of the new Marvel 500 blind bags at the weekend, let's take a look at who I got.

First up, a double of sorts

My second Ultron, but this time, the bronze/copper version instead of the blue. This is a cool little figure with some nice, but minimal, paint apps.

Second up I got a figure I wanted but...

Do I really need to point out the issues here? I understand that these are minifigures and are pretty cheap, but still. The lack of paint here is just infuriating. Why sculpt the A or feathers on Cap's head and not paint them?! Seeing as Hasbro has painted the shield, stomach, and star, surely a small amount of white for the eyes, A and feathers wouldn't have been too big an ask? I guess I understand not doing the gloves and boots, but those smaller areas would have made a massive difference - especially when you see the back of Cap.

SO BLUE. Why no paint apps Hasbro?!

I still like these little figures, but I'll only pick them up one or two at a time and I won't be too bothered if they're not in stock!

Nintendo Amiibo Mario Super Mario Classic Collection

I'm so nearly there. I've nearly picked up all the Amiibo I'm interested in getting!

Mario, for me, was a must have, but I was never sold on that first Smash Bros incarnation of Mario. This classic version is much more up my alley.

The pose is classic Mario and that's made all the better by the sculpt work and neat paint apps.

Mario is in his typical bright red and blue suit with his brown shoes, shiny gold buttons, and hat with 'M' nicely applied.

Like Toad, Mario's stood on the red base with grey checkerboard instead of the black and god Smash Bros base.

So like I said, nearly there with the Amiibo I want to pick up, but undoubtedly there'll be more released that I want!

DC Direct Series 5 Green Lantern Sinestro

Apologies for the packaging photo! I ordered Sinestro online and this is how he arrived, his card all over the place.

So continuing with a look at my budding Green Lantern collection, next up is Sinestro! Sinestro comes with a base

This base is really nice! I love that it's done in a green translucent plastic and includes the GL symbol.

And Sinestro also comes with a shiny metallic green power battery. There's a translucent piece of plastic through the middle of the battery which brings some light through, this is a really nice touch which makes the battery an excellent accessory.

Sinestro himself looks fantastic. But the lack of articulation is a real pain. I think that's a fair compromise for such a nice looking figure though, and let's be honest, these figures are aimed at the more adult collector.

A quick run down of the articulation then. Sinestro's head looks down, not up, and left and right. The shoulders are on a ball and hinge, there's a bicep swivel, a single jointed elbow and wrist swivel. The hips kick forward a little and there's a single joint at the knee. That's it. No waist or ab articulation, no ankle pivot, limited hip movement. It's a shame, but like I mentioned, Sinestro looks amazing.

Sinestro's suit is a vibrant metallic green and mat black with gorgeously sculpted musculature and line work.

The face is sculpted perfectly. Sinestro looks extremely satisfied with himself which is a strong look for the character. He has his signature larger head and pointy ears. His moustache is neatly painted and he has sharp metallic green eyes.

I love Sinestro as a character and this figure is such a fantastic representation of him as a Green Lantern. Now to find him in his Yellow Lantern suit...

DC Universe Classics Green Lantern 75 Years of Super Power

I'm amazed it's taken me this long to pick up a Green Lantern figure. GL is one of my favourite DC characters so picking up one.. or two... or five GL figures was a no brainer. So what better way to start than with the Greatest Green Lantern of them all, Hal Jordan.

Hal comes with a couple of accessories so let's look at those. Firstly, you get a badge just as a little "collectors piece".

A base which is welcome, but is a little meh.

And of course, no Lantern would be complete without their power battery.

The battery is a nice sculpt but I really wish it was a darker green, like that of the suit.

There's a lot to like about this figure. Let's start with the paintwork.

The paint, for me, is most excellent on his hair. The hair has great light and dark brown paint on it giving it some nice realism. The mask is nicely painted and the whited out eyes really pop. The shading around Hal's muscles is good for bringing out the sculpted detail there.

And let's not forget the Lantern symbol. This seems to be a decal but it's very well applied.

The articulation is pretty top notch on Hal.

The head swivels and looks up and down, the shoulders are on a ball and hinge joint, there's a bicep swivel, single jointed elbow and wrist rotation. There's also an ab crunch and waist swivel.

The hips kick out all the forward, quite far back and all the way out to the side. This does mean he has a pretty unpleasing crotch area... There's hip swivel, single jointed knee and an ankle joint.

I'm a big fan of this figure, but he doesn't really work with my new DC Direct Sinestro...

I like the height difference, but it's the differences in the suits that I'm no sold on. By the way, Sinestro review is coming very soon!

Nintendo Amiibo No 22 Toon Link Super Smash Bros Collection

Another Amiibo! If you hate that I'm reviewing these instead of figures, let me know, but I'll be doing plenty more figures very soon!

This Wind Waker Link is more simple than the Skyward Sword version we've already looked at but that doesn't take away fro how great he looks!

The simplicity is in Link's tunic and face, but his sheath, sword and shield all have nice details that are well painted and really make this figure look amazing and he's quickly become a firm favourite in my Amiibo collection.

As you're all no doubt well aware, I'm a big fan of The Legend of Zelda games so picking this Link up was a no brainer! Now to find Sheik...

I love this Link's pose, it's a lot like the Skyward Sword pose but this Link just looks so expressive! I love it! There's only a few more Amiibo I really want to add to my collection and I'll keep you updated when they're added!

Marvel 500 Bind Bags Hasbro

I'd heard about these a while ago and a as a fan of blind bags, mini figures and Marvel, when I saw these in store today, I had to pick a couple up.

This first series has 24 to collect and, I assume, the end game is to release 500 minifigures.

Now bear with me here, I'm going to try and explain some of these figures the best way I can - where the figures look like their normal characters from the comic I'll just name them, when they look different, I'll add the colour schemes. This first series contains:

Spider-Man
Captain America blue & silver
Ultron blue and silver
Hulk
Punisher
Dock Ock green & gold
Iron Man
Green Goblin green & purple
Thor
Venom
Hulk green
Ghost Rider
Captain America
Spider-Man black
Ultron gold & blue
Red Hulk
Green Goblin
Carnage
Iron Man silver & red
Nick Fury navy & white
Ghost Rider orange
Ultron
Spider-Man red
Thor red, black & silver

Now some of that probably sounds a bit confusing, but look at what I got, and it might make a bit more sense!

Firstly, I pulled

Venom!

The daddy of the symbiote family is a good sculpt, but what is that pose all about?! There are pros and cons here. Venom is a nice bulky minifigure (as he should be), the spider symbol is well applied and his eyes and tongue are both painted. The weird pose is a bit off putting, I really wish there was more paint on this guy, especially around the mouth, and the white at the eyes hasn't been applied perfectly which is a shame.

Secondly, I pulled

The translucent blue and silver Ultron.

I prefer this figure over Ultron. I love the translucent blue plastic here and Ultron's pose is much better than Venom's! Ultron looks to be holding some kind of energy ball.

There's more going on in the sculpt here too so that's appreciated. The little bit of silver that goes down one side makes it look like Ultron is being hit with a ray of light which is a pretty nice look. None of the figures have articulation by the way - they're only about 1.5" high and are quite a hard plastic.

I like these figures and I'll be grabbing more when I see them, but I can see why some people wouldn't be impressed.

Nintendo Amiibo Toad Super Mario Classic Collection

This is one of the more simple Amiibo that has been released in terms of paint and sculpt that we've looked at so far, but he's so cute!

This is a great little representation of Toad from the Super Mario games. He's a cheery looking fellow with nice clean paint apps and good sculpt work.

There's really not a lot to say about Toad other than he looks great! I prefer his Super Mario grey checker board base to the gold Super Smash Bros base too, so that's a bonus!
