Star Wars MicroMachines Series 1 Blind Bags Hasbro Disney

MicroMachines are back! This is great news, especially as these MicroMachines are Star Wars!

So who did I get in my first 2 bags?

Firstly I got this tiny Sith Infiltrator.

It's a good little ship and the detail is really good. There's also a small hole in the bottom - possibly for a stand in bigger sets?

My second bag was much more exciting

Rey on her speeder! It's a great little sculpt and again, the paint and detail is really good for the very small size of these toys.

I wasn't sure I'd want to get more of these, but I really love the detail that are in these tiny toys, so I'll definitely pick up a few more when I'm out!

Lego Minifigures Series 14: Monsters! COMPLETE WAVE!

I don't buy a lot of Lego, and I don't buy full waves of minifigures, but how could I say no to a wave of monster/Halloween themed minifigs?!

So let's take a look at these guys 4 at a time seeing as there are 16 in the wave.

Firstly, I guess one of the weakest in this line is the zombie pirate. It's a great minifig, but there are some real stunners in this wave for me! I love that zombie cheerleader, and the businessman is class, but the monster rocker is brilliant with his guitar and extra tall head.

For me the definite weakest figure in this wave is the tiger lady. It's just a little plain.

I love the scientist and his potion bottle (and massive head with crazy eyes!) which has transformed a guy into a fly! The fly sculpt is great and I love the translucent red eyes. Both the lumberjack wolf and flies heads are solid pieces, as in, the don't sit over a standard Lego head.

The witch is a fun fig and comes with her own "evil cat", as my nephew put it. Bigfoot is amazing. It's a hilarious figure, that comes with his own camera - and he has toes painted on! Spider Witch (?) has a really nice translucent plastic web cape which is a great looking piece. The plant man is interesting... has he been eaten by a plant? Is turning into a plant? Either way the head piece is a fun new sculpt.

I love the stone effect Lego has given the little gargoyle, in fact, as an overall minifigure, he's incredibly well put together. The 2 ghouls, the grey chained ghost and the wailing banshee are fantastic and make superb use of that new ghost leg piece that (I think) was created for Ninjago. And the little trick or treater is amazing. The skeleton suit which covers the whole minifig is a really nice touch, but the little jack o lantern candy pail is such good fun, I love it!

If you're a fan of Halloween or monster Lego, this is the wave for you!

Star Wars Force Friday Midnight Madness Haul Blog The Force Awakens Black Series

I won't often do haul posts, but this felt necessary!

Last night I went to Smyth's Toy Store to attend the Midnight Madness event for Force Friday. A whole ton of new Star Wars toys were released today including Mashers, Black Series, Lego, Micro Machines, die cast models, and much more. For me, the real want were the new 6" Black Series figures.

A friend and I went to the event together and while he sat in the car I kind of accidentally started the queue while making a phone call... And I'm glad I did! Being the first in the queue definitely had it's perks - but I'll get to that.

Firstly let's take a look at the freebies I got at the event!

Firstly, I got this poster (sorry about the terrible picture!):

I also got a small sticker sheet of The Force Awakens characters

And the last free goodies I got were these Lego Star Wars minifigure key rings including Wicket, Imperial Guard, Imperial Gunner, C3-PO and The Emperor!

So like I said, I was glad to be first in the queue because Smyth's got ONE box of the first wave of 6" Black Series figures in, and thankfully I managed to scoop them up straight away! I genuinely feel bad that others missed out but Smyth's should have realised that as it was a midnight launch the majority of people there would be adult collectors - those same collectors should have been catered for.

The only figure from the first wave I didn't buy was Chewie. Like I said in my review of the original Chewbacca, I couldn't justify buying, what is essentially, a different head sculpt.

The Simpsons Lego Series 2 Blind Bag Minifigures

I picked up 2 new blind bags on a whim the other day hoping I wouldn't pick up any other doubles.

Let's get these cracked open and see what we get.

First up...

Groundskeeper Willie! Very happy with this minifig, he's a great sculpt and the plunger accessory is so much fun.

Secondly...

Patty Bouvier! Again a nice figure, shame I'm missing Selma of course. And I kind of wish she came with a cigarette as an accessory, but I know they couldn't do that!

Halo Megabloks Metallic Series ODST Drop Pod and Minifigure

I had no idea that Megabloks were releasing more of the drop pods, but this time with the new super poseable minifigures. I have the metallic blue ODST from the last series so I went for the gold instead. Also available are 2 metallic Elites - one in purple and one in blue - I'm hoping I'll be able to grab those soon.

On opening up the dirty gold drop pod, which itself is nicely detailed, you get the display stand, backpack, SMG weapon and , of course, the figure itself.

My only issue with these toys are the price. Considering it's just one minifig that you get I feel as though you're really just paying for the pod itself.

Anyway, let's have a look at this guy:

I like the colour of him even though he's not exactly gold, he's more of a burnt copper, it is a cool look though. And I really do love these new super poseable figures.

From the back he looks good too, I especially like the backpack.

Overall, I'm happy to have this guy added to my metallic ODST team (I've called my team "Raptor Squad" on account of the teeth painted on their helmets) and depending on how I feel, I might just go ahead and pick up the blue ODST too. I'll be sure to post those Elites if I manage to get my paws on them!

Lego Series 13 Blind Bag Minifigures

Over the past couple of days I've picked up 5 blind bags of Series 13 Lego minifigs. I gave the initial few I got a good few months ago to my nephew as he's a big Lego fan, so I lost the joiner, space trooper and snake charmer. So I was looking to replenish this wave for me.

So first up was:

The awesome space trooper with different face prints on each side of his head. Really glad to have him back. He has an air of Halo about him which I dig.

Secondly I pulled

Aw come on!!

OK. Third...

Another hot dog guy double.. Annoying!

Fourth must be better...

Not cool. That's another double for me - the disco diva.

So far, 1 from 4. That's an incredibly poor ratio. Let's hope for something a little better for my fifth and final bag.

Fantastic! The archaeologist! 2 things: I always wanted to be an archaeologist when I was a kid, and secondly, it's excellent to see women represented by Lego in such cool jobs!

I only need a few more to complete this wave, but I might have to go to eBay if I really want them, that way there's no chance of doubles!!

Lego The Simpsons Series 2 Blind Bag Minifigures

So I went out for a sandwich for my lunch and, as I'm incredibly weak willed, I grabbed another 2 packs of The Simpsons Lego series 2 blind bags. I was hoping my luck would continue with two new figures. I should be so lucky...

Another Martin! Didn't even bother building him, no point at all! Still a great minifigure though.

I was very happy with the second figure though:

Comic Book Guy! Really happy with this minifigure, but you know my very favourite part? The little moulded Squishee cup. I love how the lid is a small see though piece with a little straw. It looks perfect!

The sour that goes with this sweetness though? It's being reported that Harry Shearer - the voice of Ned Flanders, Kent Brockman, Principal Skinner, Mr Burns, Smithers, Lenny, Otto, Dr Hibbert among many more - is leaving The Simpsons. Personally I don't think the show will function nearly as well without him, but I guess we'll see, as no doubt the will plow on and continue making the show.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Stockman-Fly

We're finally able to pick this new figure up in the UK - I ordered mine online, but I have seen this figure in my local Smyths toy store. I really liked how much build up Stockman got before finally being mutated into a fly and the mutation scene in the show was pretty great itself!

Stockman-Fly comes with the one accessory in his chocolate bar. It's sculpted in a chocolate brown plastic that has "choc" and "log" sculpted onto it, as well as some wrapper and a bite taken from it. It's a nice little piece and goes with the character.

I'll immediately get into the biggest flaw in this figure: the articulation. As usual, the basic range of Playmates' TMNT figures that aren't turtles get a minimum amount of articulation. Stockman's head is on a ball joint, his shoulders are on a ball and hinge, as are his wings, his waist swivels, and his hips swivel his legs back and forth and outwards... and that's your lot. No elbow, wrist, knee, or ankle articulation at all. A bit poor but this is a great looking figure and one of the better looking villain figs from this line.

The paint is good on this figure, but again a little lacking in places. Stockman's skin is a brown and he's wearing his pink sweater, blue jeans and tan shoes. There's black paint on his sculpted tuft of hair that's left on his head, and his wings are really nicely sculpted in a translucent green plastic. The barbs that are sticking out of his clothes are the main annoyance on the body. These would have looked great with just a small application of brown paint.

The real highlight of the paint and sculpt on this figure though are Stockman's big bug eyes that are moulded in that great translucent green plastic that his wings are done in, but then painted in a shiny metallic green that really make them pop.

There are aspects of this figure that, if corrected, would make it into an excellent piece. But sadly Playmates - to save money - won't be able to change these practices. Conversely though, these figures are kept at a pretty reasonable price and here in the UK I'm sure Smyths are selling some of their older TMNT stock off with a 25% discount, so if you're missing some characters, it might be worth a look in!

Overall I'd say this is one of the better villain figures we've got from this line and I'd recommend him for collectors of this line or kids that are into the show!
