DC Collectibles Justice League New 52 Superman

I really like the majority of the DC New 52 costume re-designs and I'm glad I like Superman - he's one of my favourite DC superheroes. So picking up a New 52 Superman from DC Collectibles was a no brainer really, since I've got into more of the DC Collectible stuff - more on that soon...

Out of the box, this is a really nice figure. The real let down is articulation.

The articulation starts out quite well. His head rocks side to side, turns and looks up (a little) and down. The shoulder is on a ball joint but the range of motion here is obstructed because Supes is so buff! He has a bicep swivel, and his elbow bends. Because of the design of his suit, there's no wrist or hand movement at all. Or waist or torso articulation. Superman's legs move forward and back and his knees bend. That's your lot unfortunately.

I guess what Superman lacks in articulation he makes up for in looks.

The face sculpt is really nice, giving him a young optimistic look. I love that DC Collectibles have painted his eyes (nice and neatly too)a nice bright blue. Superman's hair is a nice sculpt too, painted in a nice rich black - no Superman S curl though! Honestly though, I don't miss that. I really like the sculpted lines through his suit making it look like almost like an armour.

The suit is a really nice blue with the iconic red and yellow S shield on his chest. The shield is a good big size too and neatly painted. No red briefs this time on Superman, his undies are on the inside. His belt is red though so that breaks up the blue of his suit until his red boots.

Superman's cape is a soft rubbery plastic that drapes nicely over his shoulders. He has a nice black S shield on his cape too. I really like the design of this cape and think it's translated really well to toy form. The wrinkles are all sculpted really nicely and it looks like it's I motion which is great.

As much as the posing is limited with Superman, he's still a very cool looking figure and I'm really glad to add him to my collection!

So that was my 100th blog post! I have a lot more to come so stay tuned!!

Star Wars Black Series 04 R2-D2

I finally picked up the plucky little droid from Star Wars in Hasbro's Black Series 6" line... unfortunately it was at eBay prices. Nothing at all wrong with eBay, but as a collector, and someone who sells toys on eBay, I do my best to keep prices starting reasonable - if the auction goes up, that's fine, but I at least try and start prices at what I think is reasonable!

Anyway, rant over, let's take a look at Luke's faithful little droid.

This is a great little figure! Nice shiny paint apps, and the accessories?! Well, you can have whatever Artoo you want really! Jets on his legs for Prequel Artoo, lightsaber firing Artoo from Jedi, periscope Artoo from the swamps of Dagobah in Empire, or use his little scanner in Empire when he's waiting for Luke and Han to return on Hoth - all of these come with R2-D2

So Artoo is full of accessories. One downside? No storage for said accessories! That's a minor gripe though, mine are simply in a baggie and stored away.

Artoo doesn't really have much in the way of articulation, as is expected. His legs move forward and back and his head turns. But, if you fully turn his head, his middle leg extends, which is a very cool feature.

So let's look at some of these accessories.

His jet legs - the only time these will ever be on my Artoo figure...

His periscope, I think, could have used a little more paint so that it wasn't block white

The scanner is a nice piece

The lightsaber hilt is one of the nicest accessories but does take a little work to get into place.

The nice thing about these accessories is that they all have separate places and the peg hols show what goes where in Artoo's head.

Artoo also has two sections in his front that house his computer interface arm and electric bolt firing weapon

The paint on this guy is great, the silver is so shiny as is that gorgeous blue and it's all really neat. The copper colour used for some of the cables at his feet is also great. I'm very glad to have R2-D2 added to my collection - just wished I'd grabbed him when I saw him in the wild all that time ago!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Squirrelanoid

Unsurprisingly, I love the Squirrelanoid episode of TMNT in season 2. It's a love letter to Alien, one of my all time favourite films, and the episode nailed it - and once I knew you could get Squirrelanoid toys, I had to get one.

I love this toy. It's so cool! The paint work is really nice too. Squirrelanoid is cast in a dark red plastic with a nice lighter red dry brushing to bring up the details in the sculpt. The bright green used for the glowing brains and eyes (and teeth) is really great looking.

The great little action feature here is that the inner mouth can pop in and out using the small lever under the Squirrelanoid skull.

He also has a fantastic big bushy tail, which is another nicely sculpted piece.

Articulation on Squirrelanoid is quite minimal but that's something we've come to expect from the non turtle characters in the Playmates line. The head moves sided to side and up and down a nice amount. Shoulders are on a ball joint and there's a swivel in the wrist. The torso is on a ball joint meaning it can swivel and pivot a little. The hips are on a ball joint, the feet are also on a ball joint so they swivel and pivot, and finally, there's a cut in the tail about a third of the way down so it can swivel

If anything, I wish this was a bigger figure so it towered over the turtles a little more, but this is an excellent toy none the less. Glad to have this guy on my shelf with my turtles.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Kraang

I genuinely never thought I'd find a Kraang in the wild so I was delighted when I found this guy Toy R Us. I've wanted to add a Kraang to my collection for a long time so I couldn't pass this up.

The Kraang comes with two accessories in the form of two different guns. These are both nicely sculpted and moulded in a solid dark grey plastic.

The Kraang itself is a really cool looking toy. It's mostly a solid metallic grey piece but has some great sculpting and coloured highlights. The main issue with this guy is the articulation.

The Kraang has a ball joint at the neck and shoulders and his hips swivel. That's it. I guess for playing and displaying it's not a big deal, and like I said this guy looks great. The Kraang itself is a soft rubbery pink blob which really suits the character. And he looks hilariously angry!

Now I just need to find a foot soldier!

Lego Minifigures Series 13

Spotted this new wave in Asda and couldn't resist picking a few up. Looking at the packet I'd be happy with any of these guys, especially the goblin, future soldier guy, and the hot dog guy.

So this is who I got.

The carpenter/joiner

The paint on this guy is great, he has a little logo on his polo shirt, tool belt is painted neatly and his face has a cool grin and stubble.

Secondly I got the snake charmer

Pretty sad I didn't get the flute though!! The cobra is a really cool piece though and the snake charmer himself has a pimp 'stache. Also

Lastly I got the bad ass future soldier robot looking guy!

He comes with 2 guns and he even has storage for them on his back. He also has some cool insignia painted on him which is a nice touch.

Glad I picked these guys up... and I really think I need to find the hot dog guy.

EDIT!: I'm an idiot - the flute was under the snake charmer's stand!! Woo!
