Jakks Pacific S.L.U.G Zombies Series One

A friend from the USA was kind enough to send me a couple of these fun little horror toys made by Jakks Pacific. S.L.U.G stands for Scary Little Ugly Guys and Zombies because... well, zombies.

This is the first series of this line and I loved the aesthetic as soon as I saw them - coffin boxes!! How cool is that?! In total there are 8 to collect

There were none of these guys that I didn't want to get - really, I mean look at those designs! I was going to be happy with any of them.

So upon opening the coffins the figures themselves are in small clear plastic bags. I got 2, so let's see who I got

Firstly, zombie cheerleader Rigamortis Lourdes! I love the fact that instead of pom poms she's holding heads, that's such a grotesque and brilliant touch. The sculpt on her is really neat too. Nice details in the skirt and hair, and especially the face. I like the rips in her clothes too. She even has a little "Z" on her vest!

Secondly - and I was extra happy to get this guy - Decayin' Dom

This guy must be an homage to Tarman from Night of the Living Dead!! Just look at him! I love this little figure and the sculpt is excellent!

The detailing in this little figure is great, the barrel with it's radioactive sign on it, the slime oozing off of Decayin' Dom and over the edge of the barrel, the bit of brain and exposed ribs... All of it is just excellent!

If you get a chance, I'd recommend picking one of these up. They're great sculpts and solid little figures made in a brilliant toxic green plastic, and all of the characters have great designs. If I ever see these in the UK, I'd have to add another to my collection. These really remind me of Monster in My Pocket and I freaking LOVED those when I was a kid.

My Geek Box October 2014 "Nightmare"

Received this months My Geek Box which has a "Nightmare" in honour of it being Halloween this month. I was really looking forward to this box as I love Halloween - so let's take a look inside and see what goodies it held!

First up we get the second issue of the My Geek Box magazine, again with reviews and interviews inside. Cool cover this month!

Next up is a poster with 4 classic horror characters on it.

A Zombie Zity Swobblerz. A zombie barber wobble head that I guess has an interchangeable head with other toys in the range. I can't even begin to imagine how bad a haircut you'd get off this guy...

Also got a series one Zomling.

And some sweets!!

The last small thing is a Jack Skellington magnet.

I guess the two big items this month are the last two.

Firstly is a Jason Voorhees Funko Pop vinyl figure. Which would be brilliant if I didn't already have him!

And as always, you get the monthly t-shirt. This month is a red Child's Play number with a twist on Tickle Me Elmo.

All in all, it's a pretty good box! Next month's theme is "The Best of British". Interested to see that one, hoping for some Doctor Who goodies!

Horror Block September

I received my first Horror Block recently - this is technically September's Block as it's released at the end of the month, and being in the UK it takes a bit more time to get here.

It's a fun box, but I was a little underwhelmed. On opening this Horror Block you get a cool Walking Dead reference.

In the box I found a Hannibal shirt - which was a replacement as the original shirt that was due to be in the box was short shipped. And honestly? I would have preferred the original t-shirt which was an It inspired shirt with Pennywise front and centre.

That's not to say that the Hannibal shirt is bad, I just would have liked the It one more!

A second shirt was included this month which I like more.

A ripped zombie shirt in the shape of a skull. Pretty cool looking for sure!

They also included a mask to combine with the tee for a quick Halloween costume - a Neca produced full head mask of Eddie from Iron Maiden

Included in this Horror Block to add to the costume was a packet of Costume Tattoos

Lastly, in the box was the new Rue Morgue book "Horror Movie Heroes"

All in all, it's not a great box, but I am looking forward to future boxes. This box wasn't totally for me, but it was certainly worth the price items wise.

More to come this Shocktober! Go Figure!

My Geek Box September

I got my very first My Geek Box this month, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed.

It comes in a big blue box with some graphics on it and is filled with geeky fun! This month was apocalypse themed - let's take a look...

Taking a look in, this is what I saw...

Firstly I got a little My Geek Box magazine that is due to be a regular fixture featuring interviews with cosplayers and the like, and a flyer for a zombie survival experience

I got a copy of the Max Brooks authored World War Z

A glow stick for when the power eventually dies

And a Twinkie for much needed sustenance (that I gave to my wife as she's a Twinkie fan!)

I also got a toy! Aw yeah! A Funko Mystery Mini The Walking Dead mini-figure! I stopped watching the show about half way through the third season, it really wasn't holding my attention. The comics are excellent though, and as a mystery mini fan, this was always going to be a win.

I was hoping for a zombie, but I was pretty happy with the character I got. As with all of these mystery minis, the figure is blind bagged as well as being blind boxed

So you want to know who I got...

I got Merle Dixon and - this is the cool part - it's the blood spattered variant!

I really like that it's the knife hand Merle too, he's a very nice minifig with neat paint and a great sculpt. But at this point, it's too be expected from Funko.

And finally we come to the monthly tee - every month My Geek Box send a t-shirt. This months tee is a very yellow offering themed on the hit videogame Fallout

It's just a regular round neck tee, bright yellow, with pipboy proclaiming the coming apocalypse

I'm not a fan of the Fallout games, but this is quite a fun shirt which I'm sure I'll rock at some point!

For £16.99 a month, I think it's a pretty good deal and I'm certainly willing to give this another few months to see what is offered. I'm looking forward to next months as it's Nightmare themed for Halloween, which is incidentally my favourite time of year. I'll be sure to do an unboxing for it so stick around!

Zomlings In The Town Series 1

I was in Toys R Us today, and picked up a couple of small pieces. One of those pieces was a new toy that I've never seen before, a new blind bag toy called Zomlings in the Town.

Seems like these guys are in the same vein as Trash Pack toys. They're made by Magic Box Int. and it mentions on the front of the packet that there are "+100 Zomlings to collect". Wow. There were 3 choices in the Zomlings box - you can pick up one Zomling for 50p, a Zomling & a tower for £1, or a Zomling and a house for £2. I went for the middle option.

The little booklet had 1/3 on it, which is why I think I couldn't find the name of the little cowboy Zomling that I got. He came in a little blue tower that kind of looks like a jail, but it's quite a cool little thing.

The Zomling itself is a little rubber toy which is kind of cool, but I don't think I'll be picking up any more of these. To be fair, at least these seem to be more reasonably priced than something like Moshi Monsters or Trash Pack - I really only grabbed this because it was a horror looking thing that sounded like zombie!
