NECA Alien Xenomorph

The last NECA xeno I looked at had it's faults. This guy though? So much better!

This xeno is based on the first Alien from... Well, Alien. With the translucent dome on his head, and amazing shine, almost slimy look to him.

The articulation is great, but the details are what make this figure really stand up as a great looking xeno.

Like I said, this xenomorph's articulation is pretty great. Head moves up and down and side to side, shoulders move up and down - but not out. There's a bicep swivel, a ball and hinge in the elbow, and in the wrist. There's an ab crunch that swivels too, hips go back and forth, double bend in the knee, ankle swivel and toe bend. And let's not forget the tail! The tail is about 8" and has a bendy wire in it so that you can pose it and use it to help keep the xeno stood up if necessary.

But look at those details! That's what makes this, in my opinion, probably the most affordable definitive version of the original xenomorph.

The shine to the black paint and silver on the teeth and nails is gorgeous, really giving this thing a feeling of life. The xeno has the long head, five fins on it's back, long tail and gangly appearance. All the little details are there too. The jaw opens letting the inner mouth jut out on it's own, there are small ridges running down his chest accenting the exterior ribs, there are small tubes, that are separate pieces, running from jaw to shoulder, small spikes on the elbows... I could go on. Seriously, the detailing in this figure, highlighted by that great paint application make this a real winner for me!

I think I'll be looking to add to my Alien collection, the Neca stuff really is top notch (for the most part!).

NECA Aliens Sergeant Craig Windrix

I've been looking to pick up the NECA Hudson and Hicks figures, but I've had a hard time finding them in the wild, or for a reasonable online price.

I found this guy though, who isn't in any of the Alien movies, but has a great back story.

Kyle Windrix is a sculptor who works for NECA and his brother, Craig, was sadly diagnosed with cancer. NECA were good enough to immortalise Craig as a Sergeant in the USCM as a 6 inch articulated marine. Sadly Craig passed away in February this year, but I'm really glad that this excellent figure exists to keep his memory alive.

The sculpt on Sergeant Windrix is great. Great head sculpt straight off the bat, but it's the smaller sculpted details that I love on this guy, like the armour, the boots, and the belt with the accessories hanging off of it.

The articulation on the Sergeant is excellent. The head swivels, there are hinge joints in the shoulders (unfortunately these a re a little impeded by his body armour), there's a ball and hinge in the elbow and the same in the wrists. He has a torso crunch, hip joints, a double knee joint, ankle swivel and pivot, and toe articulation.

Craig comes with three removable accessories: A shoulder mounted cam and light, his motion tracker, and his flame thrower.

All of these are well sculpted, but the motion tracker is the stand out piece for me. It has a little "blip" screen and everything! So cool!

I really like this guy, along with the stellar head sculpt, the paint work is what gives this guy his personality. The camo is brilliant, but the small touches like the US flag on his shoulder above his stripes showing his rank, or the love heart painted on his armour, and not forgetting the penguin on his back ("stay frosty!") all make the Sergeant a real USCM that will stand proudly next to Hudson and Hicks once they're added to my collection.

NECA Aliens Xenomorph Warrior

Next up, I'm going to be looking at the Xenomorph Warrior from NECA.

I love the Alien franchise (yes, I even have a soft spot for Resurrection) but I'm gutted about this figure. And I'll tell you why.

Firstly, this is a gorgeously sculpted figure and the blue black shine that's on it makes it look slimy and wet. Incredible stuff from NECA.

I hate to do this to such a lovely looking figure, but I want to get these negatives out of the way.

My problem's are hopefully issues with my figure and my figure alone. Firstly, the waist joint is super loose and there's a big blob of glue on the back of the figure which is a real shame.

The top fin, the one under the head, is only sitting in place, it's not glued in and falls off easily.

One of the feet is glued in place and doesn't move.

The jaw is off centre, difficult to open, and you can't take out the small inner mouth.

And finally, one of the small tubes leading from the jaw to the back isn't connected like the other one.

All of these things mean the figure doesn't stand properly which makes posing it almost impossible. It's a real shame for such a great looking figure.

However, let's have a look at the positives.

Like I said, this is a great looking figure. Beautifully sculpted and brilliantly creepy.

The joints that work are good. The wrists have nice full articulation, the head moves up and down a little, there's a hinge at the shoulder (which doesn't work on my figure), a ball joint at the elbow, ball joints at the hips and a double joint at the knees... Well, only the one knee on my figure has a double joint. The other knee has one joint glued shut. The feet also have a mid foot hinge.

One of the nicest pieces on this figure is the tail. It's creepy, serated, and bendable, which would make posing this guy much cooler!

I have to say though, that I've used a little bit of heat and I've managed to loosen the stuck foot and knee joint, and this did help a couple of issues. I'll also glue the top fin back into place, and I'll need to glue the small hose into place. This isn't really expected on a NECA figure, and yeah, it's pretty disappointing.

In saying that though I would recommend this figure. I'd really hope you didn't end up with one like mine though.

More Alien goodies will be on the way before the end of the month so stay tuned!

ReAction Super 7 X Funko Alien Figures

I'm a MASSIVE Alien fan. I'm a huge fan of the whole original trilogy. I can even watch Alien Resurrection, and I actually LIKE Prometheus. I know, I'm weird. But Alien and Aliens are really where it's at for me. And as such, I love pretty much any Alien toy, and the Super 7 X Funko ReAction figures are no exception. As it stands I only have 2 of the 5 available: the xenomorph and Kane in Nostromo space suit.
I'll definitely be picking up the rest of the set in the future: the hero, Ripley; Ash the Company's synth; and captain of the Nostromo, Dallas. Most of the time, I'm a 'take the toy out of the packaging' kind of guy, but in this case, I just don't think I can. I mean look at the card! Such a wonderful retro feel, even having the ReAction logo in the old Kenner style (which these toys are based on).
I don't think I'm missing out too much on not taking these out of their packaging as the blister card packaging makes it nice and easy to see the figure. The only thing that sucks is that I can't play with the xeno's little second mouth (not a euphemism) or pull Kane's helmet off (NOT A EUPHIMISIM).
It's not exactly a likeness to John Hurt there but that's not really the point with these guys. They have a deliberately retro look to them that I really love, and the xenomorph sculpt is excellent. The clear dome is removable and, as you can see, the evil brain glows in the dark!! There are a lot more of these ReAction figures coming out on the back of the success of these, including characters from Firefly, Pulp Fiction and The Nightmare Before Christmas to name but a few, so good luck if you're looking to collect the lot!
