Pacific Rim Gipsy Danger/Leatherback 2 Pack

I LOVE Pacific Rim. Seriously love it. It was probably my favourite movie that year. So silly, so much fun, exciting, action packed, and just generally awesome. So when I found the battle damaged Gipsy Danger and Leatherback 2 pack in Forbidden Planet I had to have it!

Firstly, Leatherback is a beast! He's a big heavy toy, with some nice articulation, even his little mouth is articulated so you can get him looking like he's screaming which is cool. The thing about him is that he has to be resting on his hands in order to stand so you can't get too many poses out of him. The good thing about his hands is that he's got amazing spikey detailing and individually articulated clawed fingers.

The sculpt is superb. Leatherback is a dead ringer for his movie counterpart and the amazing paintwork just knocks it home. It's an amazing dark blue with a light blue dry brushing over it. Then there's the almost electric blue veins/markings over him which look amazing! The detail on Leatherback's back is stunning, with almost hair in electric blue sticking from the back of his head.

I'll start with Gipsy Danger's low point: Gipsy comes with 2 swords that can be attached to the arms in small slots at the wrists. When attaching one of them I very nearly broke it. They're seriously flimsy but it's not all bad, because the swords don't really add anything to the look, because Gipsy looks great enough on her own.

The articulation is pretty standard, no head swivel (due to the design), shoulder & elbow joints, wrist swivels, hip joints, knee joints, ankle joints and double joints at the foot. But the articulation isn't why I bought these guys. The sculpt and paint job on Gipsy is superb, it's got a beaten scuffed look with silver and grey paint shining through the dark blue main colour, which itself has a dark dry brushing effect which looks stunning.

Gipsy also has great little details like the red and blue stripes or the numbering on the shoulders. And the very nice shading in the nuclear reactor chest cavity really adds to it.

In the future I think I might pick up more jaegers. The kaijus are very cool, but the jaegers are so nicely made and detailed that if I see them in the wild I'd be tempted to pick them up. Go figure!

Hit up Fezbongo's tumblr here, he takes some damn pretty pictures!
